Saturday Organic Fabric by Monaluna

Our new Saturday collection has arrived! The fresh fabrics finally landed at our warehouse on Monday, and we’re busily shipping them out to shops and designers who have been patiently waiting while they made their slllooooowwww progress through customs. I’m so excited to get to work making with these fabrics! It’s a funky little group of designs that all evoke for us a relaxed, creative weekend vibe.

Saturday Organic Fabric Patchwork

These designs have all been printed on our premium organic poplin, which is our most versatile substrate. It’s wonderful for quilting, adding a smoother, softer hand than traditional quilting cotton, and it also works beautifully for many apparel projects, pillows, tote bags and all kinds of other sewing projects. As always, the fabric is 100% GOTS-certified organic, which means that the farming and production processes meet very strict environmental and social standards. If you’d like to read more about the certification details, you can view the guidelines here.

We had a chance to work on some patchwork projects like the quilt and pillow above, and this Market Bag (by Noodlehead) using the small amount of sample fabric that we had before the shipment arrived, but now I’m ready to get to work on some more projects. I started a cute wrap skirt using the Cruise print (bicycles!) and the mustard Shards print, and I’m going to try a Sutton Blouse (by True Bias) with the Terrariums. What would you guys make from these prints? If you’d like to see more, you can hop over to our website to view the full collection, or place your order!

Simple Life Organic Canvas by Monaluna

I’ve been hearing from customers lately who love the look and feel of our organic cotton canvas, but they’re not quite sure what projects to use it for. We have ideas for you! If the word “canvas” brings to mind heavy, stiff fabric used mainly for tents and oil paintings, we’d love to introduce you to a whole new world of canvas.

Ours is a lightweight but sturdy oxford-weave cotton, with just enough structure to make it ideal for tote bags and purses, hats, pillows, table linens, and apparel like skirts, jumpers and coats. It can even be used in place of denim. The possibilities are endless!

Here’s part 2 to our tutorial to complete your Little Bee summer outfit. Today we’ll alter the Yoga Pants into little shorts to show off those baby legs. Photos in the tutorial use Monaluna’s upcoming Meadow Knits.

Tutorial: transform the pants into shorts.

Determine the desired length of your shorts by measuring the inseam of a pair you already have.

Use a dark marking to highlight the leg seams on your traced pattern.

Mark the shorts length on your sewing pattern.

Fold along this line. Here you can see how the darkened tracing will help you with the following steps.

For the hem allowance, measure 3/4″ from the folded edge and draw a line to mark.

Because the Little Bee Yoga Pants are flared and not straight, you will need to trace along the leg lines that you see through the folded page to mark the hem shape.

Open out the fold and cut along the hem edge you just marked.

Tip: you can use the grainline marking to align the print as you’re cutting out your new shorts.

Now you can proceed with the directions in your pattern to complete a new adorable pair of shorts.

The Free Range collection is in, and has been flying off the shelves! One of the fun parts of my job is doing photo shoots for each fabric collection, and we finally got a few photos taken yesterday. Here are some of the takes, and outtakes. Happy Friday!
