Coming Soon: the Orchard + Grove Collection

1456 Views

The next Monaluna for Windham Fabrics collection is right around the corner! This is the last week for shops to be able to pre-order Orchard+Grove, and it’ll be going to print on February 2. On one hand, this collection feels like it’s taken a long time to come to fruition: it was almost a year ago that I started painting pictures of the lemon and orange trees outside my office windows, and that started off the whole group. I love how the citrus here starts to really shine in January and February, looking like leftover Christmas ornaments, gleaming through the rain and fog of Bay Area winter. The collection grew into a bit of an homage to our citrus groves and the orchards we pass on weekend drives.

On the other hand, though, the past four months that the collection has been available to pre-order have flown by for me. I had plans to sew up some more projects with the collection to showcase what could be done with the fabrics, but that will have to wait until they’re ready to ship. I did get a Star Pop quilt done, and a funky bee pillow that I was hoping to be able to pattern, but the sewing of it ended up seeming too complicated and not quite as elegant as I’d hoped.

The collection includes 27 different prints plus 2 108″ wideback prints and 2 jersey knits. As always, they’re GOTS-certified organic, and also Oeko-tex 100 certified, and the hand is very similar to our standard “classic” Monaluna hand, great for both quilting and apparel and accessories projects. I’m especially excited about the jerseys, as they’re really nice to sew with, and very comfortable to wear. I sewed up a couple projects to include in the catalog, and have been getting a lot of use out of the Ashland Culottes.

In another months or so, we’ll start to see blossoms on our citrus trees, and I’m looking forward to the yard being full of that sweetness, and the sunnier days ahead.
