Introducing “In the Garden”: new organic fabric for sustainable sewing

3232 Views

Guys, it’s finally here! My first organic fabric collection for Windham Fabrics, In the Garden, is finally shipping to stores (including mine).

If you missed my post about this last January, here’s the background: about a year ago I made the decision to change my business model from manufacturing my own line of fabric, to licensing my designs to another company, Windham Fabrics. That has been a really big deal for me, and it was a very hard decision to make. It means that I am no longer the sole decision maker, wearing all the hats and interacting directly with my customers all over the world, but it also gives me so much more freedom to focus on the creative aspects of what I do, and also to try expanding in some new directions. Ultimately, it feels like a good decision to me, and I have loved working with the team at Windham on this collection (and another in the works!)

One of the most important points for me is that Windham is joining me in the commitment to organic, and all Monaluna for Windham collections will be GOTS-certified organic, as well as Oeko-tex. The fabric hand will be very similar to my standard Monaluna poplin, and as usual, works really well for quilting as well as apparel and other projects.

The collection includes 23 different fabrics, plus one cheater print and a panel. The prints are divided into three colorways, but all of the fabrics really work nicely together in a rich, vibrant palette. The scales are also nicely varied, so they work well for quilting and for combining accents.

Because our new studio (more on that soon!) is still under construction, I won’t be offering fabric by the yard with this collection, but I’ll be carrying fat quarter bundles as well as some other bundles, and I’m working on some fun kits as well!

Also, the look book that Windham put together has lots of great quilt and project ideas for this collection – check it out below!
